Why Do You Fear Your Medium Abilities?

Why Do You Fear Your Medium Abilities?

Mediumship is the ability to communicate with spirits.

Everyone is born with this capability but not every person intentionally makes room in their lives for communicating with the spirit world.

One of the biggest reasons is that you may not be aware that it’s a skill you’re born with; the other reason is fear.

Like any other skill, the more often you use your abilities, the more you’ll tailor them to fit into your life in a way that feels natural. You have more control than you think and there’s nothing to fear.

I get it. Saying there’s nothing to fear doesn’t make a difference if you’re the one in fear.

Although what does help is knowing where your fear comes from.

Go through this list of fears, circle what applies to you, and then handle one at a time. Once you have an awareness and a logical reason for your fear, you can examine it within of the context of your life and make a plan to diminish it. The list is in no particular order.

Why You Are Afraid Of Your Medium Abilities:

1: Religious or Cultural Beliefs: In many cultures and religions, communicating with spirits or the supernatural may be considered taboo, blasphemous, or related to negative entities.

People who grow up in these environments may develop a fear of their medium abilities due to cultural or religious conditioning.

2: Social Stigma: Mediumship used to be viewed skeptically or dismissed as superstition by mainstream society. Historically, people feared judgment or ridicule if they openly expressed or acknowledged their medium abilities. The fear of social consequences once led mediums to suppress or deny their intuitive experiences.

Mediumship is becoming more mainstream and accepted in the United States and Europe.

How do I know this?

I took a sample from my own life.

I explained to more than one hundred strangers from all walks of life that I was a medium and each person asked questions and was genuinely interested. I’m part of a traveling family so my sample goes beyond my hometown all the way to Europe and the UK.

I got responses like, “Wow.” Or, “What do you see for me?. And most commonly, “Is anyone with me?”

And many times, the person I chatted with told me that they had a family member who was a medium or that they themselves had skills.

3: Non-supportive Family or Friends: This is huge. Let’s face it. What friends and family think matters to a lot of people. Especially if you love them. They’re your family. You want them to understand what’s happening with you. If your family isn’t supportive of your skills, it’s most likely because of one of the reasons in this article. In other words, they too are afraid of something.

If you love them and have a good relationship, you may invest time and energy in explaining and that may change their stance on being supportive or interested. Or you can show them this article.

But if they’re calling you names, making your life tough, or questioning your mental wellness without any medical reason, that’s about them and not you.

The next step is for you to assess the relationship and ask if it is serving your life.

4: Lack of Understanding: Individuals who are aware of their medium abilities may not have control over their experiences at first. The lack of knowledge about how their abilities work can be daunting until you do a little research and practice your skills.

5: Fear of Losing Control: Medium experiences can often involve altered states of consciousness. Surrendering and going beyond your five senses can bring new perceptions that feel misaligned with what you’re used to. Although, practicing will help diminish your fear as it does when you learn any new skill.

6: Media Misinterpretations: Fictional books and movies can sensationalize mediumship, connecting it with mainly horrific outcomes. But that’s fiction. Mediumship is simply a form of communication with unseen energetic sources and as long as you connect from a place of love and healing, you’re on the right track.

Can things get ugly if you connect randomly with anyone or anything? You bet. But it’s the same in the three dimensional world as well. Discernment, intention, and common sense matter…regardless of what dimension you’re communicating with.

7: Personal Beliefs: Even those who experience mediumship themselves may struggle with accepting or believing in their own abilities. Self-doubt, or a lack of confidence in one’s intuitive capabilities can lead to fear and anxiety. This is especially true if your abilities come online later in life, and you didn’t grow up with realizing that you had medium skills.

This was the case with me. I didn’t realize I was a medium until I reached adulthood. So many things started happening that I had to make more room in my life for my abilities.

I took some time and reflected on my life and saw that I’d always had the skills but never knew what was happening. It wasn’t too scary, but it did feel weird. In fact it was weird enough that I started writing a horror novel. You could easily refer to me as an accidental medium. It was a part of my life that no one pointed out until I met a fellow medium…psychic…or whatever you want to call it.

As a kid, I knew things for no good reason, like when I was in danger or when someone was not trustworthy.

I always followed my gut from an early age. You can read my personal story in my upcoming book, The Spirit Guide Handbook, if you’d like to know more about me or how to develop your skills.

8: Fear of the Unknown: Mediums connect with unseen energy, which can trigger fear at first. Although, you can always see what or who is presenting energy around you by using your inner sight and paying attention to the imagery in your mind’s eye.

How can you get rid of your fear of using your medium abilities?
